This painting is inspired by the old practice of gathering and preserving herbs in the growing season. Bundles of lavender, chamomile and other herbs hang drying from the beams while a woman sits at her table studying botanical notes. The door opens up to the garden, where geese wander and herb beds continue to grow outside.
Filled with drying herbs, seed catalogues, botanical sketches and shelves of tinctures, the painting celebrates the knowledge passed from one generation to the next. The gathering, drying and storing of plants that have long been used in the home and kitchen.
